If you think you have a broken jaw, this is considered a dental emergency, and you should make an appointment right away. Depending on the severity we may encourage you to visit the hospital.
When you call our office we may ask you a series of questions to determine the best treatment plan. If you have experienced trauma, treatment for a broken jaw should be taken care of at a hospital. Other more serious symptoms may occur due to jaw trauma, and the hospital can provide the very best care. If you notice you have breathing issues please do not wait and call 911 immediately.
When you visit the hospital for a broken jaw x-rays will be taken and you will be given a physical exam. Depending on the severity jaw surgery may be recommended. Your jaw stability will be tested and blood work will be taken.

If you are not sure if your jaw is broken we encourage you to call our office or your doctor. Patients can place ice on the area at home to help control swelling and minimize pain while they wait to be seen. It is important to stay calm, and make sure you are seen as soon as possible.
